Elmer Julius Lohner of Daysland, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away peacefully at the Daysland Hospital on Friday, March 29, 2013 at the age of 79 years. Elmer was born May 22, 1933 at the Daysland Hospital to parents Alfred and Dagny Lohner. He met Caroline Giedemann and they were married on August 10, 1974. Elmer lived on the farm his entire life, where he and Caroline raised two children. Elmer and his brother Vern were best of friends, and partners in the farm operation. They farmed grain, fed cattle, ran a dairy until 1975, and raised hogs. Aside from farming, he found some time for off farm activities, including camping, fishing, some golfing, and he loved to travel. He enjoyed several trips overseas, and to the US. Special trips included a trip to Norway, travelling to Alaska with the family in an RV, and most recently to Newfoundland. Elmer never officially retired from the farm, and remained at home at the farm until the last few days. He enjoyed the visits of family, neighbours, and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Caroline; children Elaine Lohner of Rosalind and Neal (Anastasia Dmitruk) of Rosalind; one grandchild Gaven; brothers Leon of Camrose, Stan of Camrose, and Vern of Daysland; sisters-in-law Arlene Lohner of Daysland, and Clara Lohner of Camrose. On Caroline's side are Norman and Marcella Garneau; sister Mary Raphael; Patrick Giedemann; Robert and Joan Rajotte; Henry and Helen Vermuelen; David and Louise Giedemann; and numerous nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. Elmer was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Dagny; brothers Ken and Marvin; his parents-in-law Alfred and Leona; sisters-in-law Peggy and Joyce. A funeral service was held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the Bawlf Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Interment has taken place in the Greenview Cemetery Rosalind. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Daysland Hospital Foundation, or Greenview Cemetery Fund, or the charity of one's choice.
