Obituary of David Morrison

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David Earl Morrison of Camrose, formerly of Hughenden, AB passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at the age of 62 years. David was the first son, second child born to Frederick and Beryl Morrison on February 12, 1951, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Dave has two brothers, Doug and Dale, and four sisters Beth, Barb, Brenda, and Bonnie. He graduated high school in Saskatoon in 1969. Dave was always a free spirit and hitchhiked to Vancouver in the summer of 69 with hopes to make it to Woodstock, but he got side tracked by numerous other adventures along the way and never quite made it. He moved to Calgary in the early 70's and worked for Horne and Pitfield Foods. This is where he met Joanne on December 6, 1976. His version is that she fell in love instantly with his "slim trim 145lb, blond physique", but she may have a different version of the story involving Dave following her home from work to get a date. They were married on April 15, 1978 and would have celebrated their 35th anniversary next month. Dave and Jo were blessed with three children, Deryk, Kyle, and Amy. In 1990 Dave and Jo moved the family to Hughenden. During the 13 years the family lived there, Dave had the opportunity to work at a variety of jobs, including the oil patch, the military base and the sulphate plant. He took great pride in his work ethic, and passed this trait onto his children. In 2000 he ended up working in plumbing. This lead him to go back to school at Nait in 2001 to obtain his journeyman certificates as a plumber and a gas fitter. Dave graduated in 2007, and also successfully earned his Red Seal Designation at the age of 56. His work as a plumber brought him and Jo to Camrose in January 2004. Dave enjoyed his years as a plumber and gas fitter, but had just embarked on a new career working for the City of Camrose, and was very excited about this new position. In the last few years he was able to participate in the weddings of his three children. Dave was thrilled to welcome Christina, Chantal and Todd into the family, and fell in love with them instantly. These weddings gave him the opportunity to travel to Mexico and Jamaica. He overcame his fear of flying and fell in love with the Caribbean. His family always came first and they were his greatest pride and joy. Dave became "Popa" with the arrival of his two adorable grandsons, Gryphon and Noah. He cherished spending time with them. What comes to mind when you think of Dave is his love for music, history and his pets. Dave was never seen without his strong coffee, and would take his travel mug with him everywhere. He considered himself quite the dancer and connoisseur of Motown and classic rock. You could hear his music a block away. Jo was very grateful when the kids gifted him with a set of headphones. Dave was the family's history buff and was the proud owner of the entire collection of "Uncle John's Bathroom Readers". One of his greatest thrills was visiting the Mayan Ruins while in Mexico. Dave spent many hours relaxing in his Lazy Boy watching endless history documentaries. Throughout the years the family had several pets, all of which Dave adored, especially his dogs. He was very meticulous about maintaining his fish tank and making sure the neighbourhood birds were well fed. Dave was a hard working man, a family man, a great man, and will be deeply missed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joanne; his mother Beryl Hitchcock of Saskatoon; his children Deryk (Christina) Morrison of Edmonton, Kyle (Chantal) Morrison of Edmonton, Amy (Todd) Baker of Edmonton; two grandchildren Gryphon and Noah; two brothers Doug Morrison of Saskatoon, Dale Morrison of Saskatoon; four sisters Beth (Jim)Stark of Saskatoon, Barb Morrison of Saskatoon, Bonnie Coleman of Saskatoon, and Brenda Morrison of Abbottsford. David was predeceased by his father Frederick, and step-father Howard Hitchcock. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 23, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. from the First Baptist Church (6406 44 B Ave Camrose, AB). Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one's choice.
