Obituary of Maryanna Martz

Maryanna Martz of Forestburg, Alberta passed away on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Maryanna (Schulte) Martz was born October 1, 1926, to Joseph and Annie Schulte at home in Heisler, Alberta. She married Leander Martz on August 5, 1947. They raised their family of eight children on the family farm east of Heisler. Maryanna grew a large garden which she loved to do and worked along side Leander in milking cows and helping with seeding and harvest. In 1973 they built a new home in Heisler, this bringing a little more time to enjoying her precious grandchildren. Later they enjoyed living in the Villa in Forestburg. Maryanna passed away peacefully on March 1, 2013 at the age of 86 with her family by her side. She is survived her children Gordon (Joanne) Martz of Camrose, Donna (Ron) Dronyk of Torrington; Susan (John) Postma of Kitimat, B.C., Randy (Cyndie) Martz of Forestburg; Wayne (Toni) Martz of Forestburg, Joseph (Patricia) Martz of Heisler, Linda (Alvin) Nahajowich of Daysland, and James (Shauna) Martz of Heisler; twenty seven grandchildren; twenty three great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren; brothers Leonard (Marcella) Schulte, Joe (Jeanette) Schulte; sisters Helen Martz, Alma (Gilbert) Martz; and inlaws Florence Sommer, Angela Hihn, Theresa & Melvin Kuefler, Norman & Lorraine Martz. Maryanna's love of family and friends kept her house a busy place. The coffee pot was always on anytime you stopped by for a snack, being homemade cookies, cinnamon buns, or her famous chocolate cake. Sunday suppers were always cooking with her not knowing how many would show up and no one ever left hungry. We all learned quickly not to go visit her on a Tuesday evening as this was her night out with her Bingo Buddies, she stilled enjoyed bingo until the very end. Maryanna was predeceased by her husband Leander; her parents Joseph & Annie Schulte; parents-in-law Joseph & Hanna Martz; son-in-law Lloyd Badry; grandson Tyler Martz; sister Valeria & Ben Niehaus; brothers Norman, Harry & Arthur Schulte; in-laws Rita & Irvin Blumhagen, Ralph & Melvin Martz, Jerry Hihn, Warren Sommer & Jim Kroetsch. A prayer vigil was held on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. from St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church Heisler. A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated on Friday, March 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church Heisler with Rev. Leon Kler as celebrant. Inurnment has taken place at St. Martin's Roman Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Alberta Cancer Foundation or Daysland Health Centre.
