Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth George Astle, oldest son of George and Faith Astle was born on November 22, 1926 in Milk River, Alberta and passed away peacefully on Monday, February 4, 2013 in Daysland, Alberta. Ken grew up in Milk River/Coutts area and worked on the family dairy farm, he found his opportunity to leave by joining the army at the age of 17. He married the love of his life Evelyn Moore in 1948 and spent the next 30 years working in the oilfield. For the majority of those years he worked for Dowell creating lifelong friendships, and lived in various towns in Alberta and Saskatchewan. In 1980 he moved to the Daysland /Strome area making it his home for the past 30+ years. He would attend his children's ice carnivals or whatever sport they were involved in, when he was not away working. Next generation…..and having more time, he was the greatest fan of whatever the grandchildren were involved in be it dance recitals or sporting events, he would always be there if he could, even traveling to BC to watch a baseball or hockey game. When he was not spending time with his family or traveling around with his trailer, he could be found reading a western or watching sports (Baseball or Football) on TV. He did more and more of this after his wife moved to Killam Long Term Care. Having to be separated these past few years made them both very lonely. There to greet him in heaven are his parents George & Faith, his sister Shirley Stawinski; grandchildren Ken B. Astle, Cheryl McKinnon and Drew Ashmore ; sister-in-law June Mohr; brothers-in-law Clement Boisjoli, Al Batchelor, Ray Moore and John Stawinski. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Evelyn of 64 years; his children Ron (Edie) Astle of Ft. Saskatchewan; Linda (Wade) Ashmore of Fox Creek; Faye (Jock) Eckenswiller of Canyon Creek, Lynne (Scott ) Davey of Camrose ; Ken (Iris) Astle of Strome; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; brothers Henry (Norma) Astle of Calgary; Rod (Sheila) Astle of Kamloops, BC; sisters-in-law Mavis Boisjoli of Ft. Saskatchewan, Gwen Batchelor of St. Albert, Delores Moore of Ft. Saskatchewan; brother-in-law Irwin Mohr of Ft. Saskatchewan; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Kens family would like to thank the staff and friends at Providence Place and the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Daysland Hospital for the care he received. Thank you to all who were there for us at this time, for your kind words and thoughts, to those who brought food, it was all greatly appreciated. As per Ken's wishes there will be no funeral and his ashes will be spread at a later date. Donations may be made to the Aplastic Anemia Association, Diabetes Association or to a charity of one's choice.
