Obituary of Kenneth Pederson

Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kenneth Melvin Pederson, aged 64, passed away suddenly January 30, 2013 as the result of a vehicular incident while on the job. He leaves to honour his memory his wife and best friend Wanda, his adored daughter, Krista, her husband Garth and Ken's most beloved grandson, Bren, as well as his dog Sparky, his faithful and constant companion. He also leaves to mourn his passing his sisters Marilyn (Joe) of Sudbury, Ontario and Sharon of Calgary, and the Kay family of Red Deer as well as many relatives and a host of close friends. He was predeceased by his brother-in- law Stephen, his father Melvin, his mother Jean and his sister Doreen. Ken had many careers and adventures throughout his life. He enjoyed a lifelong love of the far north and remote places. He was area construction manager with NTCL for Inuvik and Tuk, NWT; he enjoyed working for Hansen Petroleum in Inuvik, and he later built ice islands in the Beaufort Sea for Dome drilling platforms. After moving south to his farm, Ken worked in construction, specializing in pre- engineered steel buildings. For the last few years Ken worked as pilot truck driver, something that brought him great satisfaction as he got to meet and work with great people and travel once again into remote locations. He was proud to have served as a board member and chairman of Ste. Anne Gas Co-op, board member of Alberta Federated Gas Co-ops, a county councillor and school board trustee. He loved his farm and his cattle herd, horse and llamas. He had a love of all animals and children. We will never forget waking up one Christmas morning to find a new- born calf warming under the Christmas tree. He was an avid and knowledgeable curling fan. He loved hockey whether it was watching the NHL or his favourite minor hockey player, his grandson. But of all things, Ken enjoyed nothing more than going camping, especially when Bren was along. Many wonderful summer nights were spent around a campfire, enjoying the peace and tranquility of the outdoors. As per Ken's wishes, cremation has taken place and no funeral will be held other than for his most immediate family. There will be a memorial gathering at one of his favorite camping spots later in the year. If friends and family so wish, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
