Mrs. Shirley Sand of Edberg, passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 with her family by her side at the age of 70 years. Shirley was born at Athabasca, Ab. on May 11, 1942. At an early age she moved with her family to Pigeon Lake. She later moved to Carnduff, Sask. where she met and married Morris Thompson. They were blessed with the birth of their son Clint and daughter Kathy. She later moved to Calgary with her children where she gained employment as a Geological Map Technician. She later met Mel Sand of Camrose. They lived on their farm near Edberg since their marriage in 1987. Among her many interests and hobbies were a petting zoo she operated on the farm, her exotic birds, beautiful yard, flowers and garden. Her husband, son and grandchildren were the most important people in her life. She spent as much time as possible with Tyler and Devin, "her boys". Her heart was overflowing with love for them. Their friends Garrad, Manny, Kristen, Mark, and Reid became like extended family. At times her home would be filled with teenagers. The boys loved to hunt and found the Sand farm the perfect place to do so. They were never hassled about driving their pick-ups or quads. A good time was had by all. Shirley leaves to mourn her passing her husband Mel; son Clint (Karen) Thompson her grandchildren Tyler and Devin all of Calgary; stepsons Rob (Verna) Sand grandchildren Jordan, Jared, and Jenna all of Camrose; Bart (Sarah) Sand and grandchildren Jaymes and Kyle-Lynn of Edberg. St. John B.c.; Wayne of Ponoka; Chester (Janet) of Alcolmdale; sisters Erni (Bill) of Toronto; Donna (Morley) of Bowden; sister-in-law Elaine of Rosalind; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
