Surrounded by her family Annie Mildred Rakowski of St Albert, Alberta passed away quietly on January 1, 2013 at the wonderful age of 92. Born August 2, 1920 in Upper Brockway in York County, New Brunswick to Furber and Annie Rogerson. When she was young the family moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania USA until she was 17 years and then moved onward to Hamilton, Ontario with her family. There she worked for White Aircraft Factory during the Second World War where she met her husband Ted Rakowski. They married in September 1942. After the War they moved to Round Hill, Alberta where they took over Ted's father's farm. She enjoyed the farm immensely and often talked about going back in her senior years. Well Mom you got your wish and we know you are now back there with Dad. Enjoy! Mildred will always be remembered for her great sense of humor, her beautiful smile, and love of travel. She was always a real trooper at all the family gatherings. Mildred will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her loving family daughter Rosa Cappis of St Albert, Alberta; son Garry (Dianne) of Calgary, Alberta; son George (Carol) of Holden, Alberta and Son Dennis of Maple Ridge, BC.; eight grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews and friends in Alberta, Vancouver, BC and Burlington, Ontario and two very special people Tony Duarte of St. Albert who always thought of her as Grandma and Wayne Stad of Maple Ridge, BC who always thought of her as Mom. Mildred was predeceased by her loving husband Ted in 1984; son-in-law Len Cappis; sisters Irene Gilvear and Dorothy McGowan; and a very special sister-in-law and friend Helen Petryshen. A Prayer Vigil was held 7:00 p.m., Sunday, January 6, 2013 from Burgar Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2013 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. Interment followed in the St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Cemetery Round Hill. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.
