Obituary of Harold Kjelland

Please share a memory of Harold to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Harold "Hal" Johan Kjelland Harold to his family, Hal to his friends, was born April 23, 1921 in Viking and passed away November 19th, 2012 in Camrose. Harold joined the RCAF in 1942 and married his loving wife of 59 years, Mirriam Millang 1944. They spent the early years of their marriage in Vancouver, Penhold, La Glass and Edmonton before settling in Camrose to raise their family. One of Harold's first careers was the electrification of rural Alberta by wiring farms in the Camrose area. He then worked as an electrical inspector for the provincial government, inspecting the work of fellow electricians. In 1963 Harold opened his electrical contracting business where he trained the next generation of electricians. A friend to everyone, the noun "stranger" was not in his vocabulary. Strangers were just friends he had not met yet. Throughout his years in business, the coffee pot was always on for friends who came by the shop to purchase an appliance or have their TV repaired. Harold was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a member of the Camrose Rotary Club. He worked in any capacity he was asked to serve. If something required electricity, Harold lent a hand. Following the death of Mirriam, Harold was given a second chance at happiness when he met and married Doreen Baker in 2004. She was a faithful companion to Harold until his death. Harold is survived by his loving wife Doreen; his son Jerry; daughter Judy (Monty Miller); grandchildren Erin (Dale McGlynn), Neil (Colleen) and Alison (Te-Jay Clement); and one great granddaughter Leonora McGlynn. Harold was predeceased by his parents Herman and Julia; his wife Mirriam; his brother Helmer; and his sisters Myrtle and Bernice. Harold's greatest legacy is his love of life and family. An eternal optimist, his cup was always half full. A Funeral Service was held 1:30 p.m., Thursday, November 22, 2012 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Norm Lentz officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of your choice.
