Mrs. Helen Lassu of Camrose, formerly of Heisler passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at the age of 79 years. Helen was born in Heisler on April 26, 2007. Helen's younger siblings and her father, Andrew Sommer benefited from her dedication to the family following the death of their mother, Odelia, when Helen was in her early teens. Later, Helen enjoyed the freedom of her young adulthood while picking fruit and traveling across Canada with her best friend, Ellen. At the age of twenty four she married her longtime sweetheart, Norman Lassu, who proudly operated a grader with the words "Norman loves Helen" welded on the front of the blade. The young couple resided in Heisler, where they raised five sons. Helen was active in the life of her church and community and served for many years as a catechism teacher at the Heisler School. In 1983 Helen joined Norman in purchasing and operating the local store, which offered a variety of services to their friends and neighbors. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends and relatives, and later with her grandchildren. Helen loved to visit friends, hold earnest discussions, travel, read and laugh. She was well known for both her sense of humor and her generosity. Helen is survived by her four sons; Larry, Robert, David, and Tom, her five daughters-in-law; Sharon, Laura, Diane, Colleen and Bernie, seven grandsons, three granddaughters and two great granddaughters. Helen was predeceased by her husband, Norman, one son Dwayne, her parents and four brothers; Lionel, Gordon, Robert, and Warren Prayer Services were held on Friday, December 21, 2007 at 7:00pm., from The Burgar Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 22, 2007 at 11:00am., from St. Martin's Roman Catholic Church in Heisler with Rev. Larry Pederson as Celebrant. Interment followed in the Church Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The Heart and Stroke Foundation, or to the Diabetes Association.
