After a courageous battle with cancer Karen Greenwood moved on to a new life on September 30, 2012. Karen was born in Daysland, Alberta on November 5, 1969. She grew up and went to school in Forestburg, Alberta. After completing High School she went to work at Moore's Tomboy Store in Forestburg before going to Calgary to attend the Alberta Vocational College to take the Registered Nursing Program (later the name changed to Licensed Practical Nurse Program). Karen graduated in August of 1989 and her first job was at the Stettler Auxiliary Long Term Care Centre and then in February of 1990 she went to work at St. Mary's Hospital in Camrose. Karen was highly motivated in her nursing vocation, always working more than one job at a time. In addition to St. Mary's Hospital where she worked for seventeen years, she also worked at the Smith Clinic for nine years, and the Walk-In Clinic for seven years. In December of 2000 she started with Home Care as well as starting her own business Tickle Me Toes Foot Care, working at both until her health prevented her from continuing. Karen was married for seven years and during that time had two daughters, Courtney and Tayler, and now she has one grandson, Trenton. Karen's interests include horseback riding, canoeing, and volunteering. She sold 50/50 tickets for the Camrose Kodiaks, and the Big Valley Jamboree where she also volunteered in the first aide center. She also helped with the Kelsey Dinner Theatre doing make-up and theatre props. In 2007 she appeared on stage. Celebrating Karen's life and her new life are her two daughters Courtney and Tayler; her grandson Trenton; her mother and best friend Mabel; four brothers Brian (Deb), Mark (Deb), Wayne (Coleen) and Lee (Sandy); one sister Mary Lou (Dan) Joyce; and her Aunt Edith. Karen will be fondly remembered by her family, her friends and her patients that she cared for who were also her friends. A Funeral Service was held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday October 3, 2012 from the Camrose Regional Exhibition with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Camrose and District Hospice Society, the Learning Together Program Camrose, or to Angels Anonymous Connection.
