Joanne of Daysland, Alberta, born February 21, 1952 in Chatham Ontario, passed away June 6, 2012. Joanne was raised on the family farm at Northwood, Ontario. She attended a country school and graduated in accounting from John McGreoger secondary school in 1969. Her first employment was at Len W. Peat, and later to Bedard's Plumbing in 1970. She left this job in 1973 to raise a family with her husband Ed in Harwich township, outside of Chatham. In 1980 they moved to Alberta with their three children. They first lived in Taber then moved to Coaldale where they remained living until 2008. The Lethbridge Community College was her first job opportunity where she worked in accounting for the Student's Association. Later Joanne was in charge of accounting at the Southern Alberta Community Living Association where she worked until 2000. Her last position was at Green Acres Foundation as Head of Housekeeping, a job she was proud of as she was referred to as "Mrs. Clean" by the residents and staff. She left this position in 2008 when Joanne and her husband moved to Daysland. There they remodeled their home, and she was able to volunteer at the Camrose Railway Museum as a cook's assistant. One of the highlights was the 2010 Czechoslovakian Days, a traditional Czech dinner. She was proud of her heritage, having danced in her native Czech costume at Expo 67 and other events in Canada and the United States. Her passion and leisure was her wood crafts and flower garden, but her love and devotion was to her family, especially her grand children. A prayer vigil was held 7:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, 2012 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated 11:00 a.m., Monday June 11, 2012 from Our Lady of the Prairies Roman Catholic Church in Daysland, Alberta with Rev. Len Gartner as celebrant. Interment followed in the Daysland Cemetery. Flower arrangements will be accepted and also memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society if friends and family so desire.
