Obituary of Arnold Leland

Arnold Leland Arnold passed away peacefully in the company of his son, Gregg Leland, at Lynn Valley Lodge on May 15, 2012. A long time resident of North Vancouver, he will be remembered as a loving father and "papa", a good neighbour, and a loyal friend to all who knew him. Predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Doris; and two sisters Janet and Alyce. He is survived by his sister, Ruth; his son, Gregg; daughter in law Lily; three grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, & Jordan; four great-grandchildren, Jakob, James, Ella, & Tristan; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who loved him very much. Arnold was born in Minneapolis and spent the first years of his life there moving with his father, Albinus, and mother, Anna, to a farm just outside of Birch Hills, Saskatchewan when he was about 2 years old. During the coming seven years his three sisters, Janet, Ruth, & Alyce were born. It was here he fell in love with the outdoors and working with his hands, especially as a carpenter. This would prove to be a life long passion as he would eventually build his own home in North Vancouver with the help of his wife, Doris, and many pieces of furniture for their friends and family. Arnold, an avid hunter and photographer, could often be seen in his latter years taking long walks down the West Vancouver seawall with his close friend, Mari, enjoying a sunny Friday afternoon and taking pictures of any bird which presented itself. Arnold will be peacefully laid to rest beside his wife and Best friend Doris. A graveside service was held from the Camrose Valleyview Cemetery Saturday May 26, 2012 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Heart and Stroke foundation or the Covenant house, two foundations Arnold supported for many years.
