Obituary of Herbert Andersen

Please share a memory of Herbert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Herbert Clemens Andersen was born on September 21, 1944 to Viggo and Anna Andersen and was welcomed by his older sister Norma. He grew up on his parent's farm in Tilley where his love of nature and working to help things grow was developed. His interest in agriculture and the value of education instilled in him by his parents led him to take a degree in Agriculture at the University of Alberta. While there he fell in love with Carolyn Johnson and they were married in 1968. Herb brought to their life his gentle kindness, his thoughtful conversations, a sense of adventure and encouragement. Herb and Carolyn moved to London, Ontario where Herb completed his MBA. Their value of family led them to return to Alberta. While in Calgary their two sons, John and Ryan were born. In 1983 they moved to Camrose. Herb combined his interests in agriculture and business through his work for the Alberta Financial Services Corporation. In Camrose he lived out his value for building communities with his service on various boards such as: Augustana, Bethany Group, Library, Urban Parks, Community Futures East Central Alberta, Messiah Lutheran Church, Rotary and Sahakarini. He retired after career that spanned finance, agriculture, real estate appraisal, and management. Herb's interests included a love of good music, good food, and drinking good coffee. He enjoyed learning about international finance and current affairs. Herb created many special memories while fly fishing with his boys. He loved travelling with Carolyn and they dreamed of someday travelling around the world together. Herb loved nature, and enjoyed creating a beautiful garden and standing in a river with a fly rod. He had a passion for learning and believed in sharing freely of his time and resources. At the heart of Herb's life was his faith in God and commitment to grow spiritually. People and relationships were very important to Herb. He treasured his family, especially his grandchildren: Macey, Carter, Jessa and Gabriella. Herb gave us the gifts of his kindness, gentleness, and playfulness. He gave us his thoughtfulness and shared his wisdom. Above all we have been blessed by his quiet love; a love that did not call attention to himself, rather it was given freely to all whom he took time to be with. Herb's influence will continue in our lives and his presence will be greatly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Carolyn; children John (Tara Anger-Andersen) of Spruce Grove, and Ryan (Susie Brownell) of Calgary; four grandchildren Macey, Carter, Jessa, and Gabriella; one sister Norma (Wayne) Anderson of St. Albert. Herb was predeceased by his parents and one infant sister. A funeral service was held on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Kristian Wold officiating. Interment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to Messiah Lutheran Church, Sahakarini.
