Obituary of Dorothy Bieber

Dorothy Edna McKibbon Bieber was born in Ponoka on February 27, 1942. She was the fourth child of Johnston and Edna McKibbon. Her older siblings, Denise, Melvil, and Stella, along with her younger sister, Claire, were raised on a farm west of Ponoka. Dorothy attended school in the area and moved to Ponoka when she was done school to work at a grocery store. She married Ed Bieber in 1960. They welcomed their first son, Melvin later that year. They lived in Ponoka until moving to the Bieber family farm in 1961. After a brief stay on the farm, they moved again to another farm in the area. Gary was born in 1962 and the growing family moved to Elk Point in 1964, where they purchased the farm the kids grew up on. Brenda was born in 1967 and Ken in 1968. Dorothy was a very busy farm wife, raising chickens, turkeys, growing a large garden and helping with the farm work. The family spent a year in Barrhead from 1975 to 1976, but decided town living wasn't what they wanted. They moved back to the farm at Elk Point and stayed there until 1984, when, seeking better land, they moved to the Camrose area. Dorothy then moved to Camrose in 1985, which is where she lived the remainder of her life. She worked a variety of jobs; Mcleods Hardware, the Hacienda Hotel, the Travelodge, and lastly Sobeys. Dorothy retired in 2002 and enjoyed walking, socializing with her friends, gardening, baking and babysitting her grandchildren. She moved to Sunrise in May 2011, when her failing health made independent living unmanageable. Dorothy passed away suddenly on March 4, 2012. Dorothy was predeceased by her sister Stella, her father, Johnston, her mother, Edna, and her sister Denise. She is survived by her brother Melvil, her sister Claire (Alan), her children, Melvin, Gary (Valerie), Brenda (Ed) and Ken (Tamsin) and numerous grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed. Dorothy Edna Bieber of Camrose, Alberta passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2012 at the age of 70 years. A funeral service was held on Friday, March 9, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Garfield Vikse officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
