Please share a memory of Bernice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bernice Bernard of Camrose passed away on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the age of 81 years. Bernice was born Annie Bernice Larson in their home in the Donalda Coulee on June 9, 1929 to Lars and Elva Larson. Bernice grew up on the farm north of Donalda and graduated from Donalda High School. She attended hair dressing school and worked in Innisfail as a hairdresser when she met the love of her life, Clarence Bernard. Bernice and Clarence were married on March 22, 1951. They then moved to the Edmonton area. To this union five children were born, Bruce, Joyce, Anne, Danny, and Scott. Bernice was kept busy looking after her family and working outside the home. They lived in Edmonton until 1976 when they bought a grocery store in Galahad. From there, they moved to Camrose in 1980 and she had remained there since. After Clarence passed away in 1986, Bernice continued to work at the Norseman Inn as the head housekeeper and retired at the age of 70. She said her work was her social life and made many good friends there through the years. Bernice loved to travel and took many trips and cruises, travelling all over the world. She also took up a hobby that became one of her passions - quilting. All of her children, grandchildren and many of her friends have beautiful wall hangings and quilts in their homes that Mom had created for them. She also loved to garden and spent many hours out in her yard with her plants and flowers. Silver Creek Greenhouse is going to miss her annual visit. Bernice and Anne would pack the vehicle with so many plants, Mom was almost a hood ornament a few times! Bernice was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She especially loved to spoil her grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her children; Bruce (Virginia), Anne (Bob) Stang, Danny (Melinda), Scott (Lisa), her son-in-law Florin, ten grandchildren, her brothers Larry and Richie (Yvonne), numerous nieces and nephews and her wonderful friends. Bernice was predeceased by her husband Clarence; her daughter Joyce and brother Donnie. Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. from the Camrose United Church with Mary Ann Pastuck and Alan Richards officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Camrose Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society or the charity of one's choice.
