Arthur "Art" Swanson was born August 10, 1924 to John and Hannah Swanson, youngest of eight children. He passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at the age of 87 years. Art is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lavia; five children Lavonne (Randy) Holowaychuk, David (Rose Ann), Barry, Twylene and James (Raisa). He is also survived by nine grandchildren Derek (Niki) Holowaychuk, Krista (Evans) Austin, Tonice, Silken and Liam, Jared and Tara, Chad and Amanda; also one great grandchild Ella Reese Austin. Art was predeceased by his parents; four brothers Alvin, Henning, Elmer and Rudy; three sisters Mable, Eunice and Esther as well as one granddaughter Keely-Shaye Rose Swanson. Art was a seismic driller, played in the family band and was a farmer who raised potatoes, dairy and beef cattle. Art moved into Camrose from the farm in December 1989 where he resided until his passing. Art really enjoyed travelling with friends and in particular following the children as they played ball around the province. He loved family gatherings. Family was of the utmost importance to him. Art always reminded his children and family of the importance of regular exercise which he showed by example; as well as instilling a good work ethic. Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Dennis Lindstrand officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to The Alberta Cancer Foundation or a charity of your choice.
