Obituary of Eileen Kabush

Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jack and Vera Hickey welcomed Eileen Elizabeth (Hickey) Kabush to the world on August 8, 1918 in the farming community of Dogpound, Alberta. Being the second born of ten children, she had helped inside the house with the younger siblings while her mother tended to chores outside. She enjoyed horses and rode her pony to Dogpound School until grade 9. Her early twenties were spent working at an egg-drying plant and as a housekeeper in a boarding house. Considering her fondness for music and dancing, it was no surprise that it was at the York Dancehall in Calgary where she met Dan Kabush - the love of her life. September 27, 1944 they wed at the Lutheran Partinage in Bawlf, AB where they settled a year later. It was here where her farm and family became her main focus - having a total of 5 girls to run after kept her quite busy. Eileen enjoyed spending time with her family, who have fond memories of the time spent with her. She had a warm smile, joyful laugh, and healing hugs. She welcomed everyone into her house and life with open arms. Some of her hobbies were baking, bowling, dancing, boardgames, card games, and music... especially Elvis!!! Eileen leaves behind to honour her memory her children Velma (Bob) Blackman, Susan Popowich, and Judy (Jerry) Nordstrom; 9 Grandchildren; and 11 Great Grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Dan; daughters, Debbie Kabush and Donna Schroeder; sons-in-law, Larry Schroeder and Peter Popowich. We love you and you will be greatly missed. A funeral service was held on Friday, January 6, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. from the Burgar Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of one;s choice.
