Obituary of Barbara Jones

Please share a memory of Barbara to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Barbara Mary (BJ) Jones Born 1927 in Khartoum Sudan, BJ was raised in Wales. When freed from her administrative work at a major brewery, BJ climbed mountains, rode horses, and toured the British Isles on her shining BSA Bantam motorcycle. Emigrating to Canada in the early 60s, BJ worked for the Manitoba Government before joining the Federal Public Service, first in Parks in Manitoba and then Treasury in Ottawa. After retiring she remained in Ottawa with her golf clubs, dogs and many friends until 2000 when she moved to Camrose to join her nephew and niece. First living in the Old Sparling Historical District, and then at Dried Meat Lake, she came to love the flora and fauna of East Central Alberta. When life and age began to challenge her hearing, mobility and intrepid spirit, she was fortunate to be assisted and cared for by the wonderful staff of the Bethany Group, first at Pine Cottage in Bethany Meadows and then at Lilac in the Louise Jensen Care Centre. Buffy da Silva was a true companion, escorting BJ on local and far flung adventures, or simply challenging her to spirited games of Scrabble. On October 22nd, BJ released her grip on life in the loving presence of her nephew Michael Jones, her niece Alyson Lavers, and her friend Buffy da Silva. She will always be in our hearts. In accordance with her wishes there will be no service. If you have a moment, look up to see the hare in the moon, listen to the wind, and treasure your family. We'll be planting an oak tree for BJ, a fitting monument to a Celtic warrior woman with sparkling eyes.
