Obituary of Doris Stolee

Doris Stolee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2010. Doris was born July 22, 1918 and grew up on the family farm north of Donalda. She was baptized and confirmed her faith at Bethany Lutheran Church, and remained active there until the move to Camrose. Her strong faith shaped her life. In 1938 she married Mike Stolee and moved a half mile down the road to where they farmed until retirement. Despite many hardships, it would be hard to imagine a more contented life or closer marriage. She was a quiet and steadfast partner in all they did. Doris and Mike had only one child, David, but she was a special aunt to numerous nieces and nephews who spent summer holidays on the farm. Her door was always open and all who came hoped that there would be a fresh supply of her cinnamon buns on hand. In 1993 Doris and Mike moved to their "vacation condo," Hillside Village in Camrose. They continued to spend time at the farm where she tended the garden that not only gave expression to her artistic and nurturing spirit, but also rewarded her with many hours of peace and relaxation. Doris is survived by son David (Gail), grandsons Jon (Shannon), and Drew, great-grandson Zachary, sisters Dorothy Stolee, Anne Marie Knudtson, and Alice (Alvin) Rude, as well as many treasured nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Mike in 2002 A funeral service was held on Monday October 25, 2010 at 1:00pm from Messiah Lutheran Church (4810 50th street Camrose) with Rev Kenn Ward and Rev. Dr. Paul Knudtson officiating. Interment followed in the Bethany Donalda Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of your choice.
