Mr. Clifford Van Slyke of Clifford Henry Van Slyke, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at Bethany Meadows, Camrose on December 10, 2011 at the age of 92 years old. Clifford was born on September 3, 1919 to Clarence and Katie Van Slyke on the homestead of Heisler. He grew up on the farm and married Anna Kroetsch at St. Martin's Church in Heisler on June 6, 1944. They were blessed with 3 sons, Ken, Gerald and Doug. Clifford is survived by his three sons Ken (Diane), Gerald, Doug (Brenda). Also left to cherish his memory are his six grandchildren Karly (Gary), Tiffany (Scott), Trevor (Lianne), Bryce (Brittanie), Kevin, Lynne; three great-grandchildren Maddax, Shea and Jaxten; his brother Mervin (Emma) Van Slyke; sisters-in-law Loretta Kroetsch, Rita Bendfeld, Edna Hauser, Nora Kroetsch; brother-in-law Leander (Phyllis) Kroetsch, as well as numerous friends and relatives . Clifford was predeceased by his loving wife Anna; his parents Clarence and Katie; his brother Vern Van Slyke; his sisters-in-law Barb Van Slyke and Irene Kroetsch; his brothers-in-law John, Edward and Linus Kroetsch, Arnold Bendfeld and Ken Hauser. Clifford loved the land, his potato patch and the livestock on the farm. He had dairy cows and milked them every day until he was 65 years old, when he sold them. He was a very faithful man and the boys remember when they were doing chores on Sunday morning he would always remark "Today's Church". When Anna passed away he became the official potato peeler because he thought that without those beloved potatoes in wasn't a meal. He will be greatly missed. A Prayer Vigil was held on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at 7:00pm from St. Martins Roman Catholic church in Heisler. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11:00am from St. Martins Catholic Church in Heisler, with Father Leon Kler as celebrant. Interment followed in the St. Martins Roman Catholic Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the St. Martins Cemetery fund.
