Obituary of Minnie Montgomery

Minnie was born December 3, 1913 to Ole and Raghild Paulson at Donalda, Alberta at the homestead in the Spruce Coulee District. Minnie lost her mother at age of 4 years old. Her father then had to foster her and her younger sister Inga. Minnie married Gaultris Montgomery on July 3, 1939 in Edmonton, Alberta. They then moved to a farm at Edberg, Alberta to raise their family. Minnie was predeceased by her husband Gaultris on October 19, 1953. Minnie stayed on the farm to raise the children until the summer of 1962 when she moved to Camrose, Alberta. Minnie worked at Bethany Nursing Home in Camrose until her retirement in 1979. Minnie loved her family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren very much. Minnie's grand love was her flowers in her yard and used to spend a lot of her time knitting and making afghans, she also enjoyed her bingo very much. Minnie was predeceased by her five brothers, Hank, Andrew, Otto, Louis and Nels; four sisters Gunild, Margaret, Rosie, and Inga; three sons-in-law William Zacharko, Mike Tancowny, and Donald Ekholm. Minnie is survived by her children, three daughters Ethel Ekholm of Donalda, AB., Joyce Tancowny of Bruderheim, AB., and Hazel Zacharko of Bruderheim, AB.; two sons Donald Montgomery of Bruderheim, AB., and Ronald (Shirley) Montgomery of Biggar, SK.; thirteen grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and six great great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Ruby Montgomery, and Myrtle Norman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Minnie was a loving, caring person, and will be deeply missed by all whom knew her. Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Donalda Lutheran Church with Jack Reddekopp and Niles Bennett officiating. Interment followed in the Donalda Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Donalda Cemetery Fund, The Heart & Stroke Foundation, Canadian Diabetes Association or the charity of one's choice.
