It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of a wonderful mother, cherished grandmother, and respected family and community member on Friday, August 12, 2011 with the passing of Lauretta May Falkeid. Lauretta May Falkeid was born on February 3, 1922 at Medicine Hat, Alberta. She was the third child of Raymond and Clara (Lockrem) Brager who resided on a farm east of Camrose, Alberta in the Parkland District. Lauretta attended the rural Hartland School and later Camrose Lutheran College. After having worked at several stores in Camrose, she married Odin J. Falkeid on December 27, 1950 at the Parkland Lutheran Church. They were to reside on the family farm in the Allied District north of Bawlf,Alberta. The farm was a source of pride and joy for both of them and they raised 3 children there; Neil, Beverly and Sandra. Lauretta was an active member of the Bawlf Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid Association during her years on the farm. As a couple, Lauretta and Odin also enjoyed traveling and camping, along with participating in several escorted bus tours through much of Canada and the USA. During retirement from farming, Lauretta organized and helped with family reunions for both the Lockrem and Brager families which still continue. She was a talented seamstress and enjoyed handicrafts of all types along with baking family favorites. In 1992, due to Odin's illness they moved to Camrose but maintained contact with the Bawlf area and the farm. Lauretta was predeceased by Odin in 1994 and her parents,Clara in 1972 and Raymond in 1992, as well as her brother Ronald Brager; sisters-inlaw Edith (Falkeid) Bronson, Helen (McNabb) Brager; and brother-in-law Harold Bronson. She is survived by her family, Neil (Suzanne) of Calgary, Beverly of Calgary and Sandra (Dave) Domes of Camrose. Much of her retirement years, both in Camrose and on the farm centered on her 5 grandchildren who were sources of happiness and pride for her; Brooke (Ryan) Bachmeier; Kyle, Craig and Shyla Domes; and Ryan Curry. She is also survived by one sister, Muriel (Conrad) Gunderson of Camrose and one brother, Harley Brager of Red Deer. Lauretta also leaves to mourn several nieces and nephews as well as numerous cousins, both in Canada and the USA. Funeral services will be held at Bawlf Lutheran Church on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Bill Harder officiating. Interment will follow in the Bawlf Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Lauretta's memory may be made to the Parkland Church Preservation Society, or to the charity of your choice.
