Obituary of Alexander Staldeker

Please share a memory of Alexander to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alex Staldeker was born on April 9, 1928 in Major, Saskatchewan. Dad passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 12, 2015. He moved to Macklin, Saskatchewan when he was seven years old where he farmed with his family. In 1939, the family moved to North Battleford to continue farming. While living in North Battleford, Dad and his brother Joe were instructed to clean/clear up the land. Dad and Joe thought it would be quicker and easier if they burned it. The fire took off and came very close to the Mental Hospital, thankfully the fire burned itself out prior to a major catastrophe (nearby farmers were not too impressed with these two). In 1945, the family moved to Rosalind, Alberta to continue farming. In 1949, Dad relocated to Toronto, Ontario to take a course in Radio and TV arts. The college closed and Dad had to quit - there he worked at a bakery while in school. Dad then moved back to Alberta and settled in Camrose. He worked at Schnell and Barrie for a while in Camrose, this is where he found the love of his life, Joyce Kupec - his future wife. They married in 1954 and over the course of their 60 year marriage they raised four sons - Chris, Brian, Tim, and Rob. He worked in the Automotive industry with various companies until his retirement in 1993. He enjoyed bowling, cards, puzzles, collecting coins, making things with wood, and making farm machinery (from memory). His hands were always busy doing something. Dad liked a challenge and it seemed there was nothing Dad couldn't fix. He loved his family and grandkids dearly, and will be sadly missed. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Joyce; children Chris (Loreen) of Morinville, Brian (Debra) of Lloydminster, Tim (Roberta) of High River, and Rob (Patty Anderson) of Camrose; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Alois of Camrose, and Victor (Rose) of Red Deer; and sisters Katie (Mel) Adams of Cranbrook, and Isabel (Tom) Klug of Camrose. Alex was predeceased by his brother Joe; sister Mary Young; and his mother and father. A Prayer Vigil was held at 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 16, 2015 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 from St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Pederson as celebrant. A private interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation or to the charity of one's choice.
