Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Bobik was born on December 25, 1941 in Elk Point, Alberta to Theodore and Helen Hyshka. Being the youngest of 9 children by 14 years, she grew up near Therien on a farm, and later moved with her family to Glendon. Anne spent much of her teenage years looking after and growing up with her nieces and nephews before moving to Edmonton after she graduated from high school. Anne completed her nursing Aid Certificate in 1959. She worked at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and later on at the Women's Prison in Edmonton. She married her 1st husband, John Gerun in 1962 and in this union, their son Billy was born. Anne and John later moved to Daysland and operated the Daysland Hotel, then moved to Ponoka where they operated the Leland Hotel together until John's passing in 1975. Anne married Francis Bobik in 1976, and they later moved back to the family farm in Daysland, in 1977. To this union three daughters, Frances, Marianne and Leona were born. Anne was a real people person, and had many close family members and friends who really loved her. She loved the farm life, especially cooking, gardening and visiting with friends and neighbors. Her door was always open and the coffee was always on. Company never left her home hungry or thirsty. Anne and Francis were also active members in the Polska Church Community, helping to establish Polska into the vibrant faith community it was. Both worked tirelessly at Polska and assisted with events that occurred over the years. Anne had a wonderful sense of humor, a loving heart and a home that was open to all. She will be remembered as warm-hearted, generous and outgoing by everyone whose lives she touched. Anne passed away peacefully on October 21, 2008 at the University of Alberta Hospital with her family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Francis, and four children, Bill (Roxanne) Gerun, Frances (John) Bobik-Lordel, Marianne Bobik and Leona Bobik; two grandchildren, Devin and Courtney Gerun; two sisters, Rose (Bob) Sakowsky and Jenny Lebadu; three sisters-in-law, Cecilia (Richard) Gabruck, Janice (Bill) Dayton and Esther (Ken) Malick; brother-in-law, Dale Selin; mother-in-law Josephine; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Anne was predeceased by her parents Theodore and Helen Hyshka; her first husband John Gerun; four brothers, Bill, George, Nick and John; two sisters, Mary Katchan and Mona Mereniuk; sister-in-law Gloria Selin and father-in-law Mike.
