Merliene Hazel Howg was born on July 4th, 1921 in Enchant Alberta, the youngest of five children to Ole and Lena Howg. Merliene attended Bible School at CLBI in Camrose and was part of the first Graduating Class there. She married Rev. Henry Haugen on June 3, 1947. Merliene and Henry raised seven children together. Merliene was a patient and loving Mother. She gave her children unconditional love and supported them in all of their interests and activities. Family life was very important to Henry and Merliene. The early years were filled with fishing and camping trips and the ever popular berry picking picnics. In their later years Merliene and Henry enjoyed camping in their trailer and went on many trips and tours including two trips to Norway. Merliene and Henry enjoyed church and community events but their greatest joy was always in sharing in the successes and adventures of their children and grandchildren. After Henry's death in 2005 Merliene remained active in condo activites and later embraced her new life at Sunrise Village. Merliene died peacefully on November 17th at the age of 93. She will be greatly missed by her children: Carol Kawanami (Roy), Joel Haugen (Georgette), Sharon Kinnee (Doug), Shirley Marler (Garry) , Marilyn Haugen-Strand (Lidvald), Eunice Querengesser (Neil), Lois Friesen (Daryl), fifteen grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2014 from Messiah Lutheran Church with Rev. Bonnie Arends officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Hospice Society of Camrose and District, or to St. Mary's Palliative Care.
