Obituary of Lloyd Sheets

Lloyd Andrew Sheets was born on June 4, 1926 to Ragna and Hugh Sheets of Ohaton. He was the first grandchild on both the Sheets and Fossen side and was spoiled rotten by his grandparents. He grew up on the family farm south of Ohaton and attended Horicon School. Lloyd lived his entire life as a farmer. Lloyd loved his sports, playing and coaching ball and hockey, and he loved to listen to Foster Hewitt broadcasting his favorite hockey team, the Toronto Maple Leafs. Lloyd married Gwen Clarke of Didsbury, the love of his life, on June 16, 1956. Their first eight years of marriage they lived in Camrose where Lloyd worked for Camrose Auction Market and Byers Flour Mill while continuing to farm, he also spent many years working for the Daysland Auction Mart. In 1964, they moved to Ohaton to the farm where he spent the rest of his life. He was a staunch supporter of the Ohaton United Church and the Athletic Association. Lloyd and Gwen had one daughter Tammy (Len) of Ohaton and three sons Doug (Brenda) of Okotoks, Dean of Camrose and David (Shelley) of Camrose. He also loved and was very proud of all this nine grandchildren: Jesse, Brianne, Lauren, and Braden (Doug), Nikki, Melissa, and Blair (Tammy), Aidan and Tanner (David). Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Gwen; his four children; nine grandchildren; two brothers: Lyle (Janice) of Kelsey and Don (Linda) of Rosalind; three sisters: Ruby (Dave) Hutchinson of Duhamel, Pat (Dave) Thompson of Pigeon Lake, and Helen (Burl) Adams of Kelvington SK; brother-in-law, Charlie Lindberg of Camrose; and several nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by his father and mother Hugh and Ragna Sheets, infant brother Glen, brother Russel, and sister Shirley. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, October 25, 2008 at 11:00am., from The Camrose United Church with Mary Ann Pastuck officiating. Inurnment took place in the Camrose Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to The St. Marys's Hospital Chapel Fund, The Alberta Lung Association, or to the charity of your choice.
