Obituary of Louise Lewis

Please share a memory of Louise to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Louise Caroline Lewis was born on January 21, 1933 at the family farm close to New Norway. She attended Kensington School in Highland Park (5 miles SW of New Norway). At the age of 10, her father passed away (Axel) and the other children, aged 7 and 3 weeks were left with their mother (Marie) to care for the farm. When Louise was 14 years of age, the family moved to Camrose where she completed her education to grade 9, and then went to pursue a career in Practical Nursing at St. Mary's Hospital. She worked there for several years and particularly enjoyed the maternity ward. This was the beginning of her lifetime ambition of caring for people right up until her time of passing. Louise met Nick Palechuk at the Camrose fair and they married in 1953. Nick worked on the oil rigs for a number of years and they had to move frequently. During this time Louise helped the workers with their laundry, proving once again her compassion for her fellow man. They were blessed with one son, Shane, and eventually they all moved back to Camrose. She worked at various places, including Brodies Store, Dr. Elliott's Veterinary Clinic, and Andy's Convenience Store. They then took up residence at Heritage Manor, where she commenced a 12 year career as caretaker at the Manor. She was employed as caretaker and cleaner, but in reality her job could be called "Nurse Maid" and "Friend" to all the residents and they fondly remember her to this day. In 1994, Nick passed away and Louise continued her caretaking job. Two years later she married Roy Lewis at the Grace Lutheran Church. Five years later she finally retired from caretaking and found extra time to pursue her hobbies of knitting and crocheting for the Farmer's Market in Camrose and surrounding areas. Louise is survived by Roy, her husband of 12 years; son Shane and his wife Susan; grandchildren Christine and Matthew; sister Elsie; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Axel Lindholm and Marie (Lindholm) Tweter; her sister Beverly Alm; and her niece Gail Sanders. Funeral service were held on Tuesday September 16, 2008 at 2:00pm from The Grace Lutheran Church in Camrose, with pastor Don Schieman officiating. Inurnment followed in the Camrose cemetery. Donations are gratefully accepted to the Canadian Cancer Society.
