Obituary of Alma Miller

Please share a memory of Alma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mrs. Alma Sarah Miller, daughter of Emmanuel and Rose Weisser, was born on November 25, 1907. She resided with her parents in the East Bittern Lake district, where she attended school and church. In 1924, she married Theodore (Ted) Miller and they farmed and raised their six children west of Camrose until 1943 when they moved into town. Ted operated a delivery service until 1952 when he began "Miller's Taxi" and, together with Alma as his dispatcher, they continued this service for 20 years. After retirement, they pursued their hobbies of carpentry, and in Alma's case, dressmaking, which she continued for several years following the death of her husband in 1973. Alma was a member of Century Meadows Baptist Church in Camrose. She attended and served in the same church for 96 years, helping out whenever and wherever she was able. In 1996, she became a resident of Stoney Creek Lodge where she benefited from, and appreciated the caring staff and faithful friends who visited her there. In November 2004, she left her beloved Camrose and moved to Calgary to be near more of her family. She became a resident at the Geroge Boyak Care Center where she remained until her passing. Alma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Laurie, daughter Irene, two sisters - Mrs. Clara Gerber and Mrs. Jeanette McGhan, her brother Paul Weisser, one brother in infancy, and two grandsons - Ted Coberly and Glen Miller. She will be missed by her sisters - Mildred Dreger of Kelowna and Phyllis Bjorgum of Camrose; three daughters - Florence Miller of Boise, Idaho, Joyce Schultz and husband Morley, and Terry Miller of Calgary; her son Al Miller and his wife Ethel and daugher-in-law Alice Miller of Red Deer. "Granny" will also be remembered by 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends. Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, August 18, 2008 from Burgar Memorial Chapel with Pastor Mark Morris officiating. Interment followed in the Century Meadows Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the charity of your choice.
