Oscar "Bert" Beck Nordin

(April 16, 1929 - March 12, 2023)

Oscar (Bert) Beck Nordin passed away peacefully on March 12, 2023, in Camrose AB.  Bert was born in Calgary on April 16, 1929, the only child of Ethel and Berthill Nordin. Bert was raised on the family homestead in Niton Junction, AB. 

Bert attended school in Niton Junction and he was said to be one of the most well-mannered students in his class, a mindset nourished by his mother, a local school trustee, and his no nonsense, hardworking, sawyer father. The Nordin home was a converted Grand Trunk Railway station, known among travelers as a place for a fine home cooked meal from Ma Nordin, even some boarding for the night. Bert grew up learning to meet and interact with strangers and to hear their travel stories.

Bert’s social skills and his love of travel and “things automotive or mechanical” led to his lifelong career as a salesman, mostly in northern AB and BC, selling automotive parts, heavy equipment and big rig trucks (Mack), and even operating a full-service gas station. Bert had an exceptional sales career. 

Bert met a young widow, Alice Hall (Tisi), fell in love, and the two married September 18, 1954. Alice’s daughter, Marguerite, became an instant “twinkle” in Bert’s eye. Bert and Alice were married for 68 years and were blessed with two sons Richard and Robert.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Alice; daughter Marguerite (Richard) Tews; sons Richard (Nancy) Nordin and Robert (Brenda) Nordin; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and numerous relatives and friends. 

Bert was predeceased by his parents Bert and Ethel Nordin.  

A Funeral Mass was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 16, 2023 from the St. Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church, 3605 50 St Camrose with Father Kris Schmidt as celebrant. The service was recorded, and accessible at the following link: https://stfxcamrose.caedm.ca/recorded-masses/
