Allan Kerr

Obituary of Allan Peter Kerr

Allan Peter Kerr

(February 23, 1935 - January 24, 2023)

Allan Peter Kerr was born in Lamont on February 23, 1935, to Peter and Jennie Kerr, grew up in the New Norway area and moved to the Camrose farm in 1957.
Allan married Miriam Ellis Gould in 1958.

Allan milked cows and worked for Camrose Animal Breeders full-time until 1970 when he bought the farm from his father.  His time working with the Animal Breeders and spending many hours discussing genetics with his father-in-law inspired him to start the Kerrose herd which became his passion and pride. Between playing, watching, coaching, and officiating sports he volunteered many hours. In addition, he contributed his time with many boards and organizations in Camrose and across the province.  In 1992 Holstein Canada awarded him their highest honour – A Master Breeder Shield.

Allan and Miriam put up with three kids in their house, Janet, Roger, and Bruce. Allan supported their activities by coaching sports and as a 4-H Leader.  He spent many hours mentoring not only his own children but those on teams and in clubs he worked with.  He passed on his passion for agriculture to his children and generously let the next generation step in when he felt they were ready.  When Roger and Bruce took over farm responsibilities, it gave Allan the opportunity to enjoy other pursuits such as slow pitch and travelling both in Canada and internationally.  After Miriam’s passing Allan married Rose Marie Klassen in 2010.

Allan is predeceased by his first wife Miriam; his parents Peter and Jenny; two sisters Mary and Shirley; and brother Harvey.

He is survived by his wife Rose Marie; children Janet Kerr, Roger (Ardelle) Kerr, and Bruce (Marilyn) Kerr; five grandchildren Kathleen (Rocky) Riggins, Jennifer Kerr, Victoria (Dan) Pagnutti, Emilie (Kevin) Pollard, and Jesse (Malinka) Kerr; four great-grandchildren Eddie and George Riggins, and Artie and Remy Pollard; and brother Walter Kerr. In addition, he is survived by two stepsons Tony and David (Heather) Klassen; and step-grandchild Brenden Klassen.
