Obituary of Arthur William Nicholson

Arthur "Art" William Nicholson

(October 9, 1931 - October 12, 2022)

Arthur "Art" William Nicholson of Camrose, AB, formerly of Lampman, SK, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at the age of 91 years.

Art was raised by various relatives in the southern Manitoba area. He left the farm as a teenager for the lights of Winnipeg where he worked driving truck for a fuel-oil delivery company. There he found his aptitude for all things mechanical. He eventually moved to building roads, which took him to southeast Saskatchewan and the Carnduff area, where he met Vonnie, and found his forever family as he was welcomed into the extended Mitchell/Thompson clan. He always called her “the love of his life.” Art and Vonnie married in 1955 and settled in Hirsch, where Art began working for the Beckman company. They welcomed Roxanne in 1957, and moved to Steelman when Art became foreman for Davidson Road Construction. Michelle joined the family in 1961, and they moved to Lampman when she started school and Art began working for the RM of Browning.
Art and Vonnie spent the next decades building a lovely home and garden, and were part of a vibrant local community. They stayed in close contact with the extended family; visiting relatives was a key part of every vacation. Their daughters’ educations and careers expanded Art and Vonnie’s travels. Roxanne and Wayne drew them to Saskatoon, Melfort, Prince Albert, Kingston, and Camrose. Michelle and Kris hosted them in Regina, Perth AUS, Gainesville GA, and Maple Ridge. The real draw was, of course, Erin and Alex; Art and Vonnie adored their grandchildren and were so pleased to celebrate Erin and Gord’s wedding in Mexico.
When Roxanne and Wayne finally settled in Camrose, Art and Vonnie decided to downsize and live closer to family. They had six wonderful years in their Brookside condo. As always, Art and Vonnie found loving communities, at Brookside and through Bethel Lutheran Church. They spent time with family, and Wayne took Art fishing and hunting. The family gathered annually at a lake cottage, hosting many relatives. Roxanne, Wayne, and Michelle took them on a memorable trip to Nashville, celebrating Art’s lifelong love of music. They appreciated being close to their great-granddaughters, Arwyn and Bristol. With Vonnie’s passing, Art moved to Seasons Retirement Home, where he received excellent care and attention.
Art had a long and love-filled life, and he will be missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Roxanne (Wayne) Harde of Camrose, and Michelle Nicholson (Krzysztof Lepianka) of Maple Ridge, BC; grandchildren Erin Harde (Gord Burt) of Calgary, and Alex Lepianka of Berlin, Germany; and great-grandchildren Arwyn Burt, and Bristol Burt.

Art was predeceased by his wife Vonnie (Devona); Ab & Doris Unraw, Pete & Louise Mitchell, Don & Doreen Mitchell, Viv Carver, Gord & Sharon Mitchell, Durl & Kathy Mitchell, Diane Atcheynum, Dew Carver, and Chad Mitchell.
