Chester Alton Johnson

(May 9, 1938 - April 24, 2022)

Chester Alton Johnson of New Norway, Alberta, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at the age of 83 years.

Chester Alton Johnson was born May 9, 1938, a special Mother's Day present for his parents, Anna and Herman Johnson. He left to meet his Saviour and Lord on April 24, 2022. 

Chester grew up on the farm at New Norway with his brothers, Donald and Leroy and little sister Mavis. He enjoyed the farm and loved to spend time with Dad doing the many farm chores, especially with the horses. 

Chester was a fun-loving guy, full of laughter, jokes and pranks. He loved being around family. The Johnson and Hovde cousins were a close bunch, and had many fun times together. He so enjoyed being an uncle to his nieces and nephews. He was the fun uncle, and could be counted on to have time to make special memories with you. 

While working in his trucking business, Chester met Helen Applegarth. He and Helen had a happy life together for nearly 40 years, helping to raise her two granddaughters, Cheryl and Mandy. Chester became a grandpa to them and their children. 

Chester was a man of strong faith, kind, compassionate, and a loyal friend. 

Left to cherish his memory are his brother Leroy Johnson; sister Mavis (Bill) Wilson; granddaughter Mandy; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. 

Chester was predeceased by his Special Friend Helen Applegarth; brother Donald; sisters-in-law Dorothy and Dianne; and granddaughter Cheryl. 
 

A funeral service was held Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church in New Norway.
