Joyce Carol Ferguson

(July 20, 1936 - September 30, 2021)

Joyce Carol Ferguson of Central, Alberta, passed away on Thursday, September 30, 2021, at the age of 85 years.

Joyce was born in Winnipeg, the only child of Tom and Winnifred Deacon. This little family moved to Calgary where eventually she met Allan Ferguson at work in Family Court. He was ordained in the Anglican Church in 1961 and they married in Edmonton in 1962. Their officiant, Bishop Munn, joked it was the first time he married a priest to a Deacon. The new couple started their family in northern British Columbia, adopting one son, then moved back to Alberta where they had another son and adopted a daughter. 

Joyce spent most of her life as a wife and mother, always looking after someone; her children, her own father in his last years, and Allan as they both aged. Thankfully, she had the wonderful staff at Bethany Meadows taking care of her for a change, for her last nine years. Joyce most enjoyed bowling when she was younger, eating out whenever she could, and sitting on a deck overlooking a lake, and visiting with fellow RVers. After moving into her Bethany cottage, she proceeded to socialize and participate in most activities they had, especially bingo, bible study, and singing. 

Joyce had to grieve the loss of her son Burke in 2016, but now she has joined him again. She went peacefully to our Lord and Savior the evening of September 30, without illness or pain.  
Left to mourn are Ronald Allan, her husband of 59 years; daughter Thyra Verbaas (Leonard) of Coldstream, BC; son Tom (Marilyn) of  Ocean Shores, WA; grandchildren Connor, Hannah, and Sarah; friends and family across western Canada.
