Marjorie Jean Ford

(May 30, 1945 - March 24, 2021)

Marjorie Jean Ford of Edmonton, Alberta, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 75 years.

Jean’s impact on the world and the people around her will be deeply missed. She was someone who cared deeply about others. In 1967 she graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc. RN degree and began a life-long nursing career. She saved lives in the University Hospital burn unit and later at the Breton General Hospital. In her final days, she was the recipient of the kind of care she provided when she worked at Extendicare in Leduc.

Jean was a lover of family and friends and opened her home and space to so many. For nearly 20 years Jean and Skip operated a foster home, caring for over 50 children. They welcomed exchange students from Mexico, Costa Rica, Panama, and El Salvador further enriching their home and those from afar.

Over the years, Jean honed her talents as a gifted artist. Her home is filled with creative pottery and fibre arts decorated with intricate stitchery. For over 40 years she was a member of the Edmonton Needlecraft Guild and during that time was a leader, became a teacher, mentor and offered workshops of all kinds through the guild and other conferences.

Her ability to connect with friends and immediately welcome people into her life was apparent wherever she went. She had a passion for hospitality and was in her glory feeding any who would sit around her kitchen table.

Jean loved camping, travelling and spending time in her garden surrounded by the life and Creation that was all around. Later in life Jean and Skip became born-again Christians, celebrating their spirit with each other, God and dear friends.

Her dogs were very important companions for her and we are grateful for the support she received through ElderDog Canada who offered dog walkers, temporary foster care and compassionate support to her, Rob and the dogs.

Jean was a child of God, teacher, lifesaver, mentor, dedicated spouse, committed mother and fabulous friend. Her energy is part of this world and she will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Robert Ford (Dinis Martins) of Camrose, and her sister Ellen (Alf) Collinge of Edmonton.

Jean was predeceased by her husband Skip; parents Melville and Charlotte Quebec, brother Jimmy Quebec, and sister Gwen Durand.

A celebration of life will be planned at a later date.

If family and friends so desire, memorial donations are gratefully accepted to ElderDog Canada
