Edward "Ben" Benjamin Grinde

(August 16, 1937 - May 23, 2020)

Edward "Ben" Benjamin Grinde of Holden, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at 1:25 pm at the Viking Hospital at the age of 82 years.

Ben was born August 16th, 1937. He is the youngest son of Fred and Olga Grinde. He had three brothers and six sisters. He was predeceased by his two children Troy Grinde and Jodi Grinde; parents Fred and Olga Grinde; sisters Gusty, her husband Stanley George, Claire Grinde, Gerty and her husband Rudy Mizera; brothers Reinold and Arther; and brothers-in-law Alan Davies, and Robert Ruskenveld.  Ben is survived by his wife Carol; daughter Pam and her husband Russell Schultz and two grandchildren Tyler and Dustin Schultz; sisters Antonia Penill, Evelyn Davies and Helen Ruskenveld; brother Reuben; and sisters-in-law Elaine, Lillian and Jean; as well as many nieces and nephews, their families and many friends.

Ben was raised on the family farm North of Holden and attended the Longridge school. At the age of 16 Ben began farming. He also worked off the farm as a welders helper and a derrick man for Regent. On June 24th, 1972, Ben married Carol Field, the daughter of Harvey and Hilda Field of Bruce. In 1980, Ben and Carol purchased the home half and branched out and purchased more farmland from the surrounding neighbours. Ben and Carol had three children Pam, Troy and Jodi. Ben was a very active farmer having cattle herds of both Simmental and Charolais. Ben loved his horses and raised Registered Quarter Horses. Over time Ben dispersed the Simmental herd and sadly the Quarter Horses and started to use registered Red Angus bulls on the Charolais cows and the white herd gradually became red. In 2015, Ben had a brief stay in the Grey Nuns Hospital at which time he made the tough decision to sell the cattle herd and rent out some of the cropland. Ben’s passion was always farming and his strong work ethic showed in everything he did.

Ben was truly Loved and will be greatly missed by everyone!

Due to Alberta Health Regulations, a private family service has been held.

If family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Ben's memory may be made to the Viking Health Care Centre, STARS, or to the charity of one's choice.
