Lorne Aleck Pearson

(December 19, 1942 - March 2, 2020)

Lorne Aleck Pearson of Camrose, Alberta, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2020 at the age of 77 years.

Lorne and his twin sister Lorna were born December 19th, 1942 to Aleck and Honor Pearson. He was born in Provost, Alberta. Lorne grew up on the farm and took his schooling at the Setting Sun School until Grade 8.  He completed Grade 9 at the Metiskow School then was off to work.

Lorne started working for local farmers and then he left home to work on the construction of the Killam hospital.  At age 16 Lorne began working with Cactus Drilling.  This was the beginning of his oilfield career.  Shortly after that he met Marlene.  He knew she was the love of his life from the beginning.

They were wed May 4th, 1962 and a year later their daughter Lorna was born. During this time Lorne and his brother Foster started up a water well company.  In 1966 Lorne and Marlene moved from Wainwright to the farm outside Metiskow into Lorne’s grandma’s house.  Rob was born shortly after this move.  Lorne started working at the Alberta Sulphate Plant.  The family moved into Metiskow in 1968.  Son Steven was born in 1970.

Lorne coached the Metiskow Braves ladies hockey team.  He really enjoyed travelling with “his girls”. He also played hockey with the Metiskow Colts hockey team.  He was an active member of the community.  He assisted in building the arena, maintaining the cemetery, assisted many farmers in the area and enjoyed the Metiskow and Czar sports days.  The Pearson tug a war team was one of the best!  He also enjoyed discing, playing baseball and attending rodeos all over the country.

In 1975, Lorne left the Sulphate Plant and returned to the drilling rigs.   He worked hard and quickly worked his way up to being a tool push for Kenting Drilling.  He was employed with them until 1995. While working on the rigs Lorne bought his first water truck which was the beginning of Mar Investments.  He operated this company until 2019.  He was “officially” retired at 76 years old.

In December 1980, Lorne moved his family to Camrose to be closer to Edmonton as Steven required medical appointments in the city.  Throughout the years Lorne worked hard at building a successful water hauling company.  Lorne and Marlene really enjoyed living in Camrose.  They stayed in touch with friends from back home as Lorne treasured those friendships.  Lorne was always ready to go for coffee or a meal with family and friends when they came to town.

Lorne is survived by his daughter Lorna (Ron); son Rob (Connie); grandchildren Jessica Pearson, Brad Pearson, P.J. (Chelsea) Hoofd, Marissa (Houston) Paulson, Cassidy (Joe) Hoofd; great-grandchildren Maya Macumber and Isaac Paulson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lorne was predeceased by his twin sister Lorna; wife Marlene; son Steven Pearson; parents Aleck and Honor Pearson; brother and sister-in-law Foster and Della Pearson; and in-laws Lyle and Irene McMann, Ken Miller, Neil McMann, Mary-Lynn Bogart.

A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 11, 2020 from the Norseman Inn (6505 - 48th Avenue, Camrose) with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Interment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery.
