Annette Susan Wentzel

(March 8, 1930 - February 15, 2020)

Annette Susan Wentzel of Daysland, Alberta, formerly of Pretoria, South Africa, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at the age of 89 years.

There is so much to say about Mom. I could tell about how she taught thousands of kids to love English literature and poetry, and became a legend as a phenomenal teacher over generations of kids in her teaching career. I could tell of all her accomplishments on the tennis court, how she topped off her tennis career with winning the Canadian National Open for 55+ at the age of 75.  I could tell of her tremendous love and deep respect for my father, who went ahead of her in 2005.  I can tell of her love for, and devotion to her kids, who she helped endlessly, prayed for passionately, cried with, laughed with, yelled at, and hugged with all her heart. I can tell of her unbelievable bravery in everything. Of how she in 2000 left everything and everyone she deeply loved behind to immigrate to Canada to give our dad a chance to breathe easier in the fresh Canadian air...

But this I know without a doubt: She would want me to tell you about the Lord that saved her soul, and can save each of ours - without any merit of our own. She met Jesus Christ personally when she was 19.  For the next 70 years exactly she loved Him whole-heartedly. Through many glorious victories, through many miserable failures to serve the Lord with all her strength she ran and finished the race, she kept the faith, and she is now in heaven in His arms of mercy, surrounded by much-missed loved ones.  This is mom’s legacy. This is what she demonstrated to us: The Lord is gracious and full of loving-kindness.  His mercies are forever.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons Johann (Erika) Wentzel of Kerrobert, Saskatchewan and Human (Alet) Wentzel of South Africa; daughter Anneke (Kristo) Naude of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren; and sister Monica (Nils) Anderson of South Africa.

Annette was predeceased by her husband Johann; and infant sister Humandi.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 20, 2020 from the Daysland Alliance Church, with Rev. Rob Johnson officiating. Interment has taken place in the Daysland Cemetery.
