Joan Margaret Schultz

(July 10, 1936 - February 6, 2020)

Joan Margaret Schultz passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 6, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

She was born in Calgary on July 10, 1936 to Neil and Hazel Duggan. Joan was blessed to grow up with three siblings – Dennis, Donna and Julie. They were all very close as children and remained so as adult with frequent visits, traveling together and always staying in touch. They were an example to everyone of how special and important the bond of sibling love is in life and the importance of getting to know family and cousins. Joan went to nursing school at The General Hospital in Edmonton. While in Edmonton she met the love of her life, Ed. They were engaged on Valentine’s Day in 1959. They were married October 24, 1959. They lived most of their married life in Camrose. She worked at St Mary’s Hospital on the Maternity Ward for over 25 years.  She had a soft nature, gentle hands, touched many lives and will always be remembered by those she cared for.

Joan was always there for everyone. She was a full time working mother and put her heart into both her career and her family. Celebrations like Christmas and Birthdays and family vacations were made extra special by her thoughtful planning and love. She cheered Greg on in his hockey career and was very supportive to Karen and Dawn at whatever they were willing to try. She was always the heart of her family.
Her greatest joy was all of her grandchildren. She never forgot their birthdays and made it to every sporting or school event she possibly could. She would make their birthdays extra special by taking them out one on one for birthday dinners. All of her grandchildren and even great-grandchildren remember special tea parties with her, how good she smelled and how thoughtful she was. They fondly remember wearing tea party hats and the kind softness of her voice.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ed; children Dawn (Dale) Zimmer, Karen (Roger) Lestus, and Greg (Trish) Schultz; grandchildren Emily (Mike),  Caitlyn (Mel), Michael, Megan (Caleb), Autumn (Brandon), Tommy (Raechelle), Bailey, Anakin, Katherine, Seth, Ben, Joni, Brodie, Avery and Addison; and great-grandchildren Avah, Ailyana, Emelia and Marie; and siblings, Donna (Roger) Eggelstone and Julie Orr.
Joan was predeceased by her grandson Elias, brother Dennis Duggan and sister-in-law Jean Duggan and brother-in-law Barrie Orr.
In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill.
