Dorothy Virginia Riske

(December 2, 1930 - September 26, 2019)

Dorothy Virginia Riske of Camrose, formerly of Wetaskiwin and Ferintosh, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the age of 88 years.

Dorothy Virginia Riske (nee Pierson) was born December 2, 1930 at Dorenlee, Alberta to Albert and Alma Pierson.  She was the youngest of three, having two older brothers, Carl and Gordon.
Dorothy attended Dorenlee School to Grade 7 then attended high school in Bashaw.

At age 19 she married John Riske on April 10, 1949.  They started their life in Stettler, moved to Dorenlee, and then eventually settled on the Pierson homestead by Red Deer Lake.  They were blessed with four children Eldon (Brenda), Elaine (Richard), Doug (Sherry) and Judy (Robbin).  Their family would grow over the years with the addition of eight grandchildren Brett, Kevin, Lisa (Charlie), Bryan (Amanda), Jonathan (Sherry), Mark, Dianna (Jordon) and Jason.  Dorothy’s family flourished with the addition of three great-grandchildren Tucker, Abigail and Parker.
In 1989, Dorothy met Dale Tinis.  Her family continued to grow with three more children Pat (Graham), Kim (Kevin) and Mark (Candra).  Six more grandchildren would add to her delight:  Kortney, Rayden, Garth, Colby, Zander and Jessica.

First and foremost she was a loving Wife and Mother, as well as a doting Grandmother.  Side jobs included:  delivering mail and homecare.

Dorothy’s love of nature, gardening, flowers, foxes and birds showed throughout her life.  She enjoyed reading, cooking, crocheting, playing games, and watching her grandchildren’s activities.  She was somewhat of a trickster, sneaking candies and treats when she knew she wasn’t supposed to with her diabetes.

She held many fond memories of their travels and camping, especially to Alaska and Disneyland.

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who has helped our family along the way through Dorothy’s illness – from her amazing neighbors, family and friends, as well as all of the kind and knowledgeable Doctors and Nurses at the Willow Cottage in Bethany.  We thank you for your love, care and compassion.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Dale Tinis; children Eldon Riske (Brenda Anderson) of Ferintosh, Elaine (Richard) Maio of Edmonton, Sherry Riske of Edberg, and Judy (Robbin) Lessard of Vernon, BC, Pat (Graham) Giffin of Drumheller, Kim Tinis (Kevin Lingrel) of Fort Saskatchewan, and Mark (Candra) Tinis of Devon; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother Gordon Pierson of Camrose.

Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband John Riske; son Doug Riske; brother Carl Pierson; and grandson Kevin Maio.

A Funeral Service was held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, October 5, 2019 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel. Interment has taken place in the Calvary Lutheran Cemetery.
