Larry Roy Olson

(April 4, 1938 - August 23, 2019)

Larry Roy Olson of Camrose, Alberta, passed away on Friday, August 23, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Larry Olson was born in Camrose on April 4, 1938 to parents Roy and Myrtle Olson.

On January 10, 1959 he married Cherie, and they moved to Vancouver B.C, where they raised their family until moving back to Camrose in 1974. In Camrose, their children finished school, married and began families of their own.

They moved to a farm outside of High Prairie in 1989, and began the hard work of starting a new home. Many hours were spent homesteading the new place. Some of these homesteading chores were shared with his grandkids.

A few years after Cherie’s passing Larry moved to Edmonton where he worked at All Weather Windows and took great joy in attending frequent Oiler games. After finally retiring, Larry moved back to Camrose, where he resided until his passing.

His many hobbies were snow skiing, water skiing, boating, camping, fishing, and horseback riding. He loved the outdoors and often seemed most at home sharing his knowledge and love of nature with those closest to him. In recent years he would spend time making model diorama buildings. Larry had many occupations through the years including drywalling, farming, truck driving, logging, and manufacturing windows.

Larry’s favorite time of the year was Christmas for which he fully decorated and loved to make a big deal out of having his presents wrapped ‘just so’. He took great joy in making Christmas a memorable event for all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Selina Read of Camrose, and Sue (Mark) Norton of High Prairie; son Scott (Kim) Olson of Edmonton; grandchildren Brett (Dana) Read, Logan (Sarah) Read, Brenden Grace (Mirinda), Jessi (Johnny) Hesse, Amanda Olson and Joss Olson; great-grandchildren Chloe, Harper, Avery, Camryn, Lia, Maddie, Ayden, Zachary, Jaylla, Jemma, Jacob, Jonah, and Eden; siblings Bud Olson, Lorraine Glidden, and Delores Bruce; and numerous nephews and nieces and friends.

Larry was predeceased by his wife Cherie and son-in-law Bob Read.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m, Thursday, August 29, 2019 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel (4817-51 Ave., Camrose) with Rev. Brian Krushel officiating. Interment has taken place in the Parkland Lutheran Cemetery.
