Reginald Oliver Thompson

(December 26, 1940 - August 3, 2019)

Reginald "Reg" Oliver Thompson of Kingman, Alberta, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at the age of 78 years.

On December 26, 1940 Oliver and Ann (nee Hughes) Thompson welcomed Reginald Oliver into their family. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey and baseball; going on to coach and referee hockey. In the spring of 1966 Reg met Carol Skalin at a baseball game and they hit it off so well they married on November 12.  They moved to the family farm as the fourth generation and he farmed with his Dad until Oliver’s sudden passing in July 1973. Reg was passionate about the farm and his family and they were blessed with three daughters, Connie, Tracy and Terri. He also had a deep sense of responsibility to his community; he was an avid volunteer with the Kingman REA, Beaverhill Gas Co-op, Kingman Recreation Association and the Salem Lutheran Church.

Reg was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002 and it was then he said he realized what was truly important in life, his family. His most cherished gifts where time spent with his daughters and their families. Connie married Allan Banack in 1986 and they had four children, Eric, Ryan, Brendan and Breanna. Connie and Allan divorced, and Connie has been with Brian Sikorski for the last nine years. Tracy married Tim de Hoop in 1998 and they had three daughters, Olivia, Grace and Clare. Terri married Chuck (Charles) McKinney in 1997 and they had one daughter Taylor. Reg was so very proud when Terri and Chuck took over the farm in 2014 with Taylor planning to succeed her parents in the future.
Reg and Carol travelled extensively, and given his love of road trips, most of their vacations were exploring with their truck, or truck and trailer. Terri and her husband Chuck owned an acreage in Arizona and Reg and Carol loved to visit them. Reg knew San Diego very well as it was one of his favourite destinations. His last road trip was this spring with Carol and Connie as they spent six weeks driving down to California and exploring the San Diego area. Tracy joined them on the return trip in Las Vegas and they truly never stopped laughing and ribbing each other the entire drive. You always knew he was in a good mood when he would whistle and he whistled a lot while driving.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife Carol; children Connie Thompson (Brian Sikorski) of Edmonton, Tracy (Tim) deHoop of Sherwood Park, and Terri (Chuck) McKinney of Kingman; and eight grandchildren. Reginald was predeceased by his parents Oliver and Ann Thompson.

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019, from the Salem Lutheran Church with Rev. Garfield Vikse officiating. The Inurnment has taken place in the Kingman Cemetery.
