Obituary of Ruby Linnea Swedberg

Ruby Linnea Swedberg

(October 29, 1928 - June 24, 2019)

Ruby Linnea Swedberg, cherished mother, grandma, great-grandma, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully in St. Mary’s Hospital, Camrose, on June 24, 2019 at the age of 90 years. 

Ruby was born on October 29, 1928 at Donalda, Alberta to Seth and Vanja Bergstrom. The family was complete with the birth of her brother Alvin. Ruby enjoyed farm life as a young child, helping with family chores. Ruby met the love of her life, Allan, while babysitting a family near Meeting Creek. It was on January 10, 1951 that Ruby married Allan and they took over the Swedberg family farm. To this union, five children were born. They continued farming until they semi-retired to Camrose in 1985. They owned and operated “Ruby’s Grocery”, serving the community for many years. Ruby and Allan were blessed to enjoy over 51 years of marriage before Allan’s passing on May 29, 2002. 
Ruby was very active in the Meeting Creek community and continued being so after moving to Camrose. She was a member of The Women of the Moose as well as the Legion and kept busy catering to many events. Ruby enjoyed sports and was a loyal fan of the Kodiaks. She also enjoyed watching all her family participate in many activities. Ruby never missed a Meeting Creek ball tournament until this summer. She loved camping, curling, trips to Florida and hosting family Christmas at her house. 
 

Left to cherish her memory are her four sons Dwain (Arlene), Lorne (Connie), Vern (Shelley), Myran (Adele); one daughter Mary Ann (Dean) Brady; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two sisters-in-law Doris and Evelyn; many nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2019 from CityLights Church (4920 48 Street Camrose) with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating.
