Obituary of Vernon Frithjof Roth

Vernon Roth

(December 18, 1921 - March 11, 2019)

Vernon Roth passed away peacefully March 11, 2019, at the age of 97 years.

Vernon was born in Camrose, Alberta, December 18, 1921 to Albert and Malinda Roth. He grew up and went to school in Camrose. While attending school he also worked at the family business, Pioneer Garage, which at that time was a Ford and Minneapolis Moline Dealership. In April 1943, he married Berneice Strohschien of Wetaskiwin, and then started their new home on his father’s farm near Kelsey. Coming from the city made farming challenging and thanks to his wife, father-in-law, and neighbors, he learned how to adjust to farm life.

Vernon and Berneice raised five children Ronald (Dolores), Harold (Lynn), Alan (Ingrid), Neal (Sandy) and Linda (Dwayne). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great- grandchildren.

 
Vernon loved to work on vehicles and farm equipment and kept everything running smoothly. Vernon and Berneice travelled to Yuma, Arizona for twenty-six winters. They loved to bring home fresh fruit, vegetables, pecans, and raisins, as well as Flea Market treasures. Vernon loved Berneice’s cooking and baking and as a result would frequently invite family, friends and neighbors over for coffee or meals. In later years Vernon would tend to the garden and see that friends were well supplied with fruit and vegetables. Vernon’s greatest passion was driving the combine, and he did so until he was 91 years old.
In 2014 his declining health made long-term care necessary and he was moved to the Louise Jensen Centre at Rosehaven until his passing March 11, 2019.
He was predeceased by his wife Berneice, brother Malvin, and sisters Clara Nelson and Bobby Hare.

 

A Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, March 21, 2019 from the Rose City Baptist Church with Rev. Dave Cawley officiating.
