Elizabeth "Betty" Ann Marks

(June 24, 1944 - March 3, 2019)

Betty was born to George and Josephine Shute in Camrose, Alberta on June 24, 1944. She was born into a large farming family in the Dinant area where she attended school first in Dinant and then in Round Hill. After graduating she pursued a career as a nursing aid. She worked in hospitals in and around the Breton/Drayton Valley area where she met Fred Marks. Fred and Betty were married in Camrose on July 9, 1966 and proceeded to start a life together. Fred and Betty had three sons, Jim, Kevin and Scott. After living in several places, they settled down to a country life ten miles north of Camrose. 

Betty had several careers in her time but the one she enjoyed the most was being a mother and wife. Albeit it was very trying for her at times as all four men in the house could be quite a handful! She thoroughly enjoyed working in her garden, tending to the various plants and flowers. Betty also enjoyed working outside of the house at the Camrose Booster where she made many lifelong friends. But what she enjoyed the most was being surrounded by her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers and friends. She lived her life the way she wanted to, surrounded by the ones she loved. She had a big heart, a beautiful smile and will be sorely missed.

She leaves to mourn her sons Kevin, Scott (Rebecca); three grandchildren Aarika, Violet, and Joseph; and numerous sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews and friends. 
Betty was predeceased by her husband Fred, son Jim, brother Ken and her parents George and Josephine.

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019 from the Burgar Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Brian Hunter officiating. Inurnment has taken place in the Camrose Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so desire, memorial contributions in Betty's memory may be made to the Sandra Schmirler Foundation (18 Burndale Road Ottawa, ON K1B 3Y5).
