Lily "Lil" Bohmer of Daysland, formerly of Bawlf passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the age of 86 years. Lily Loken was born in the family farmhouse northeast of Bawlf on January 15, 1927. Her parents, Ole and Karen, were homesteaders who had earlier emigrated from Norway. Lil attended school at Scandia, Ryley and Bawlf as well as Camrose Lutheran College and the University of Alberta where she received her Wartime Teacher Certificate in 1946. She taught school at the Scandia one room schoolhouse from 1946-48 and in Daysland from 1948-49. Kore and Lil were married on July 31, 1949 and were blessed with two children, Calvin Rolfe (1952) and Brenda Lea (1957). Together, they operated a mixed farm of cattle, hogs, chickens and grain. Lil also worked off the farm for the Village of Bawlf (1967-1978) and Ankerton Gas Co-op (1973-1989). Lil and Kore did some unique things together. They were long time members of the Camrose Rifle and Revolver Club. Lil won several national small bore rifle championships as well as regional and local trapshooting events. Lil and Kore were also members of the Rose City Amateur Radio Club. (To her ham radio friends, VE6 LIL is now a silent key.) In their retirement years, they enjoyed numerous motor biking trips on their Harley. Over the years, Lil was involved in several organizations including the Bawlf Lutheran Church Women, National Lutheran Church Women (president for one year), Home and School Association, Curling Club, Ankerton Gas Board, Village of Bawlf Cemetery Committee, Ecumenical Services Committee, Historical Society, Seniors' Club, the Bethany Group Board (1979-1990) and served as the Hastings Lake Lutheran Bible Camp Treasurer. For many years, she also acted as Bawlf's unofficial 'welcome wagon lady'. In 1990, Lil was humbly honoured with the Bawlf & District Lions Club Citizen of the Year Award. In 1991, Lil and Kore moved from the farm and lived in Bawlf until February 2012 when they moved to Providence Place in Daysland. In February 2013, Lil moved to Bethany Meadows Long Term Care in Camrose. Lil passed away peacefully in Maple Cottage at Bethany Meadows on Sunday, November 3, 2013 at the age of 86 years.
