Obituary of Evelyn Vikse

Evelyn Vikse

(February 21, 1924 - December 8, 2018)

Evelyn Vikse was born on February 21, 1924, to Jonas and Emelie Johnson on a farm north of Donalda. She was the youngest of six children. Evelyn passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018, in Camrose at the age of 94.

Evelyn met and knew Donald Vikse from living in the same community. They dated and agreed to marry once he returned from the war. During those war years, she worked at an aircraft factory in Vancouver building planes bound for overseas.
On November 23, 1944, Evelyn married Donald Vikse. They built their homestead east and north of Bethany Church. To this marriage, six children were born.
Evelyn was active in the church community all of her years. She was a loving person with extreme patience and kindness to everyone. She loved coulee walks, always welcomed friends and family (often with a good cup of coffee), was known for her talented paintings and played a pretty good violin.
 

Left to cherish her memory are her children Marilyn (Frank) Stackaruk, Sharon (Albert) McGovern, Dale Olson, Garfield (Marianne) Vikse, Curtis (Leanne) Vikse and Karla (Dale) Adam; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and her sister Elmira Thiessen.
Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Donald Vikse; granddaughter Heather Olson; son-in-law Afton Olson; sisters Hazel Harder and Alidia Harder; and brothers Lloyd Johnson and Bill Johnson.

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from the Resurrection Lutheran Church, with Rev. David Eriksson officiating. Interment has taken place in the Donalda Bethany Lutheran Church Cemetery.
