Karen Lynn Cryderman-Herrera

(April 27, 1987 - September 25, 2018)

Karen Lynn Cryderman was born in Daysland, Alberta on April 27, 1987 to Marilyn and Larry Cryderman.  She was welcomed by her big brother Barry, and became an older sister to Myles in 1989.  She passed away at the age of 31 on September 25, 2018.

Karen was an adventurous spirit.  She and her best friend, Christy Hagen set off at the age of 14 on a two week adventure to New York City.  This trip set the tone for many other travelling experiences Karen would set out on.  After high school, Karen made up her mind to travel to Montreal to begin her post secondary experience.  After a year in university, Karen, much to her father’s dismay, decided to set out on another adventure.  Karen and Christy spent eight months working and travelling through Europe.

Upon her return, Karen resumed her studies, earning her Bachelor’s degree in Education in 2010.  Karen began her teaching career as a substitute teacher.  Karen then took a teaching job that lead her to the first nation’s community of Chateh in Northern Alberta.  When Karen returned, she continued as a substitute teacher which lead her to the position she currently held at the Night Wind Treatment Centre.  Karen was dedicated to her students and always had their best interests at heart.

Growing up, Karen was very involved in many activities.  She was a member of the Rosalind 4H Beef Club, took part in taekwondo, horse riding lessons, softball, and most recently in the last couple years, took up the sport of boxing. Karen enjoyed many family trips to Disneyland and summers at Hastings Lake Bible Camp.

Karen enjoyed every moment she spent with her family.  She loved watching her nieces and nephew’s activities and hearing all about them.

Karen met the love of her life while attending university in 2010.  Hector (Cookie) and Karen were married in a private ceremony in 2015. They made a home together in St. Albert where they shared a life; all the wonderfully good times.

Karen loved and was loved by so many.  She was pre-deceased by her grandparents, Joe and Margarethe Banack; and grandfather Robert Cryderman. Karen will be lovingly remembered by Cookie;  parents Larry and Marilyn Cryderman; brothers Myles and Barry (Kylie) Cryderman; nephew Oliver; nieces Ruby and Sadie; her father’s sons Joe and Eric Cryderman; grandmother Wilma Cryderman; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Funeral Service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 2, 2018 from the CityLights Church. Interment has taken place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
