Herb Robinson of Daysland, passed away at the age of 81 years on March 22, 2011 in the Killam Covenant Care Health Unit, where he spent the last months of his life. He leaves to appreciate and celebrate his life his wife of 59 years Zenia (nee Donecz) Robinson, only daughter Sandra and 6 sons, Donald, Gerry, Ronald, Bryon, Lester and Murray, as well as 5 daughter-in-laws, 16 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his Parents Annie and George Robinson and 5 brothers and 5 sisters, as well as one son-in-law and one daughter-in-law. Herb Robinson was born on August 10th,1929 in Luseland Saskatchewan, the youngest of 11 children. He moved at the age of 5 or 6 to Stonely Plain AB with his mother and older siblings. He received a grade 7 education in the country schoolhouse, and worked on various farms for 7 years. He also worked alongside his mother at a restaurant owned by his brother Ray Robinson, while Ray served in the army during WWII. In mid 1950's his brother Ray met Fritz Carlson and Harold Cambridge while they were on a fishing trip to Breton. The Daysland "M&M Groceries" was up for sale and Ray negotiated the purchase with Herb as the new owner. He first met Harold's daughter Dorothy and her husband Eric Beddoes when they came to Daysland to purchase the grocery store. Eric and Herb became lifelong friends. Herb moved to Daysland with his wife and daughter in 1956. He and his wife raised 7 children and were actively involved in all aspects of life in the small community. He was a Lifetime Member of the Elks Service Club, and joined the AG. Society, the Lions Club, 4H Beef Club and the Light Horse Association. He spent 20 years coaching Boys Little League Baseball, Girls Softball and Seniors and Midget Hockey. When he retired from the grocery business in 1988, he spent 20 years in the catering business and ran kitchens at the Bashaw Golf Course, Castor Ski Hill, Daysland Auction Market, and served the lunch for the Solo Club Dances. He retired to his acreage in Daysland at the age of 79. Herb lived for family and community and leaves much for us to remember. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 8, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. from the Daysland Community Hall with Rev. Ralph Kassen officiating. Interment took place in the Daysland Cemetery. Memorial contributions are gratefully accepted to the Camrose Community Church or The Daylsand United Church.
