Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Valmer Skattebo (nee Krueger) was born on February 15, 1917 in Box Springs, Alberta which is north of Lethbridge. Margaret enjoyed small town life as a child living in Granum, Innisfail, Strome and Rosalind with her parents Valmer and Carl Krueger, who was a grain buyer. Margaret was the eldest of 4 girls, Kathleen , Melba and Joan. After graduation from high school in Rosalind, Margaret attended a business college in Vancouver. Upon returning to Rosalind she worked at the MacDonald General Store for a while and in 1937 she married Elvin Skattebo. Margaret was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was also an excellent cook and homemaker. Margaret especially loved to cook and bake for dinners on special occasions such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter and birthdays with her family. Her family and friends enjoyed such Norwegian dishes as leftsa, krub, lutefisk and rosettes. Margaret spent many hours working in her flower gardens around her home. She was especially adept at raising beautiful roses. For many years she won prizes for her flower arrangements at the Camrose Flower Show. She also made flower arrangements for the tables at the Camrose Golf Club Ladies tournaments. Everyday Margaret loved to look out her big windows and watch the birds at the feeders. Margaret's love of outdoors continued later in life as she took up golfing with her husband Elvin. On many occasions they enjoyed playing golf with family and friends throughout Alberta and B.C. After golfing they would go back to someone's house for dinner and then play cards until midnight. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Elvin, her parents Carl and Valmer Krueger and sister's Melba Vos and Kathleen Olesen. Margaret leaves to cherish her memory: her daughters Betty (Ed) Lofgren of Camrose and Bonnie (Clem) Hebert of Red Deer, her sister Joan Clement of Calgary, four grandchildren Lindsay, Shawn, Chad and Chantelle, five great grandchildren and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Funeral Services were held on Wednesday April 2, 2008 at 10:00 am from Messiah Lutheran Church, with Pastor David Erikkson officiating. Interment followed in the Camrose Cemetery. She will long be remembered for her love of family and the value of friendship. The family shall not forget your comfort and support during this difficult time. Your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated and acknowledged.
