Elzear Emil Hartwick

(January 6, 1921 - July 6, 2018)

Elzear “Al” Emil HARTWICK passed away at Seasons in Camrose July
2018 at the age of 97 years. Al was born January 6, 1921 in Barons, Alberta, Canada. His father Emil Richard Hartwick and mother Sarah Evelyn (Andrus) Hartwick had six children, four boys and two girls all have predeceased him. He was also predeceased his granddaughter Sarah Gail Hartwick.

Al married Sally on October 18, 1945 they had three children, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Dad adored his wife and his children, their spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all their friends and all the extended family members were welcomed he dedicated his every thought to make their lives better, kinder and easier.

Al was a grain buyer his whole life and wasdedicating to perfect testing and grading of grain. Also ensuring any child that came to the elevator had a sucker before they left.
He was a joyful man greeting everybody he met with the hearty hello. He especially loved to
bush when he met his friends and buddies as he walked about. Dad and all his friends and family played cribbage. Cribbage was an important part of being in our family, his children often recall the nightly (15-2) (15-4) and the rest don’t score.
Dad was immeasurably thankful and grateful for life and living his best life is something his family observed always. He did not have a mean bone because he believed everything was good.

He was a passionate feather fancier all our lives we had Buff Orpington chickens and every catalogue the feather fancier required to better serve chickens.
His best days were spent with his cattle, he really spoiled his Shorthorns. Getting up at 5 a.m. to boil grain, his cattle needed to have warm grain in their bellies throughout the winter and, may I add, his shorthorns awarded him with a total dedication that was great to watch. The number of cattle pictures in all photo albums proved their merit.
